In O beijo no asfalto (1961), Brazilian playwright Nelson Rodrigues (1912-1980) develops a plot based on a kiss that occurs between the happily married protagonist Arandir, and a dying man hit by a bus. The play explores the persecution of Arandir (who maintains his heterosexuality) and the subsequent dissolution of the character’s personal life.
