DESCRIPTION:Art/History: Three Selected Documentary Shorts: Guernica\, Les
statues meurent aussi\, Night and Fog. Resnais began his career in documen
tary short production. In Guernica\, he and codirector Hessens analyze and
celebrate Picasso’s masterpiece. In Les statues meurent aussi\, Resnais
and codirector Marker pointedly ask why African art resides in the anthro
pological musée de l’Homme while Greek art resides in the Louvre. Made
at the 10th anniversary of the Liberation\, Night and Fog alternates blac
k-and-white archival imagery with poetic color footage of the ruins of Aus
 chwitz and Maïdanek.\n\nCONTACT: 262-3627\, kfkolb@wisc.edu
