DESCRIPTION:*Note: actual end time may vary.*  \n How did perceptions and fears of heresy and heretics fuel bitter cultura l conflicts\, religious persecution\, and anxieties during the early mod ern period? This talk will focus on religious fear and the literary imag ination\, and the ways they intersected in 16th and 17th century England . It will use the example of the English martyrologist John Foxe (1516-8 7) to explore issues of religious demonization\, hatred\, fear and polar ization\, as well as the violent consequences of religious extremism.
