Testing the Limits of Consensual Filmmaking?
Paul Cooke, University of Leeds
- Date May 6
- Time 2:30 p.m.
- Location206 Ingraham Hall
- DescriptionAlthough often very successful both at home and abroad, films such as "Rosenstrasse" (Margarethe von Trotta, 2003), "Der Untergang" (Oliver Hirschbiegel, 2004), "NaPolA" (Dennis Gansel, 2004) and "Sophie Scholl - Die letzten Tage" (Marc Rothemund, 2005) have often been dismissed as reactionary texts, manifestations of Eric Rentschler's 'cinema of consensus' that looked to avoid the difficult questions raised by Germany's past.
