Atmospheric General Circulation Models: Complexity, Synthesis, and Computation

Event Details

Date
Thursday, March 27, 2014
Time
4:15-5:15 p.m.
Description
To capture atmospheric circulation in mathematical models is a grand scientific challenge. The atmosphere and its interactions are extremely complex; important processes occur on sub-micron to global scales. Recently, climate change has significantly influenced physical, chemical, and biological aspects of climate modeling. Circulation model development has been a triumph of synthesis and computation, but enormous issues still require resolution to meet societal needs and guide public policy.
