Description
Shirley Wiegand (Marquette University) and Wayne Wiegand (Florida State University) will summarize research for their book on the desegregation of American public libraries during the Civil Rights Era. It will challenge conventional thinking, and show that young African Americans were mostly responsible for desegregating public libraries in the South, while the American Library Association watched quietly from its Chicago headquarters.
