Chimpanzee Research: Ethics and Policy

Jeff Kahn (Johns Hopkins) and Alta Charo will discuss their experiences working on the National Academies' IOM committee on the ethics of doing research with chimpanzees (Kahn) and the NIH working group that operationalized the IOM recommendations and developed specific criteria for when chimp research can be done and the conditions necessary to guarantee the welfare of the animals (Charo).
