Description
Joe Elder was born in the Kurdish section of Iran to Presbyterian missionaries. He earned a Sociology Ph.D. from Harvard University, then joined UW-Madison faculty in 1961. Since then he has worked in India, Pakistan, North and South Vietnam, divided Afghanistan, North and South Korea. Joe has frequently lectured about the UN in courses he has taught at the university.
